Flemingo adds sparkle to Indian travel retail following tie-up with UAE jeweller Damas – 31/08/06

UAE. Travel retailer Flemingo International has tied up with leading UAE-based jeweller Damas to offer a wide-ranging portfolio of jewellery and luxury watch brands at airports in Jaipur, Trivandrum and Chennai.

Damas’s in-house jewellery brands such as Harmony and Legacy, as well as diamond brand Solitaire, will be available at duty free stores run by Flemingo in India.

Damas Managing Director Tawhid Abdullah said: “We see great potential in the Indian duty free market. With the increase in the number of budget airlines and privatisation of airports, the country is witnessing an increase in air passenger traffic and duty free shops are doing brisk business. Flemingo with their successful track record in the duty free market was our ideal choice for this venture.”

Damas was established in 1907 and has since grown into a network of stores spanning the US, Lebanon, Qatar, Jordan, Maldives, Bahrain, Kuwait, India, Oman and the GCC countries.

Flemingo India Director Atul Ahuja noted: “We try to get the best discounts and promotions for our customers to ensure that they have a great shopping experience and our tie-up with Damas will make international jewellery and watch brands more accessible to shoppers.”

Headquartered in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Flemingo was the first private retailer to enter the Indian duty free market. It now operates 25 shops at 12 international airports in India. The company will open another 12 duty free shops at six international airports in India by January 2007.

It also has a growing presence in Africa, with 15 outlets in Burundi, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania.
