Flemingo announces two-contract win at Surabaya Juanda Airport

INDONESIA. Flemingo has secured the convenience retail and bookstore contracts at Surabaya Juanda International Airport’s new terminal, the retailer has revealed. And the emerging markets specialist is awaiting opportunities at 25 more Indonesian airports set to roll out commercial tenders over the coming months.

The five-year contracts at Juanda represent Flemingo’s first footprint in Indonesia. Speaking to The Moodie Report after a press conference at TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, Flemingo CEO Atul Ahuja said that the retailer had not bid for the duty free contract there (also awarded – The Moodie Report is seeking confirmation), but had bid for the food & beverage package.

Ahuja said: “We have also been called back for final presentations for the commercial concessions at Balikpapan Airport, and are awaiting for opportunities for a further 24 Indonesian airports that will be rolled out soon.”

Meanwhile Ahuja announced another big concession win in the Caribbean, covering duty free and convenience. The airport and retailer will issue a release shortly. Last month Flemingo won a coffee and convenience concession at Jaun Santamaria Airport in Costa Rica.

At Juanda, Flemingo will operate a 141sq m convenience store and two books and kids stores (40sq m and 81sq m) located in T2-2F domestic departures and T2-2F international departures.

In November the airport will showcase what is described as “a brand new airport concession offer created to add upgraded shopping and dining”. This offer, together with “skyrocketing” passenger numbers will bolster commercial revenues, it said.

Juanda International Airport T2 can accommodate six million passengers per annum and will handle Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Mandala Airlines and all international flights.
