AUSTRIA. According to operator Flughafen Wein, passenger traffic at Vienna International airport grew +8.1% year-on-year in August, marking an above average recovery from the downturn in traffic caused by war in Iraq and SARS.
Total passenger traffic at Vienna airport rose +8.1% year-on-year to 1,307,200.
The August rise in passengers follows the first signs of recovery in July after months of weakness due to the war and SARS.
However, while passengers travelling to Europe and the US continued to rise, traffic to Asia Pacific declined by -7.3% year-on-year and to the Middle East by -10%.
For the eight months to the end of August, passenger traffic grew +4.3% from the same period a year earlier.
