Frankfurt Airport passenger traffic climbs in October despite strike impact

GERMANY. Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport climbed by +1.4% year-on-year in October to 5.5 million. The growth came despite 1,100 pilots’ strike-related flight cancellations which affected about 137,500 passengers. Without the strike by the pilots’ union, Frankfurt Airport would have seen underlying passenger growth of about +4%, said Fraport Group.

Airports in the group’s international portfolio also reported growth in the month. Fully consolidated for the first time, newly acquired Ljubljana Airport served 117,491 passengers and achieved growth of +6.7% compared to the same month last year.

In Peru, Lima Airport handled almost 1.4 million passengers, up +4.5% year-on-year. Bulgaria’s Twinstar airports of Varna and Burgas had a combined total of 78,078 passengers – representing growth of +2.6%. Antalya Airport in Turkey showed a -4.8% drop in traffic to about 2.8 million passengers.

With more than 1.1 million passengers, St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport saw traffic rise by +5.6% year-on-year. Xi’an Airport in China achieved double-digit growth of +13.7% with a total of 2.7 million passengers. In Germany, Hanover Airport also grew by +5.6% to 571,082 passengers.
