UKRAINE. BF&GH Travel Retail, a joint venture between Gebr. Heinemann and Ukrainian company BF Group, has been awarded a five-year contract to operate 800sq m of duty free space at Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport in western Ukraine following an open tender.
BF&GH Travel Retail already operates duty free stores at fellow Ukrainian airports Boryspil and Kiev Zhuliany.
The contract came into effect yesterday, 8 December. The store, located on the third floor of the main departures area, will offer a multi-brand concept.

The joint venture retailer noted that Ukrainian airports are looking positively to the future, as an Open Skies agreement with the European Union was recently signed by the Government.
Open Skies agreement boosts travel and retail prospects
Gebr. Heinemann Director – Sales, Eastern Europe & Central Asia Oleg Zhytomyrsky commented, “The recent agreement to lift bilateral restrictions on air traffic between Ukraine and the EU is really encouraging. Despite the challenges COVID-19 has brought to the industry as a whole, we will continue to invest in our Ukrainian business. Not only with the opening in Lviv, but also with the renovation of the Boryspil shops, planned for 2022.”

BF&GH General Manager Simon Forde emphasised the company’s focus on understanding the airport’s passenger profile and tailoring the assortment accordingly.
“Customer feedback and data analysis are the basis for everything we do,“ he said. “We have tailored our duty free offer very successfully in our current shops, and look forward to extending this retail expertise to our new location in Lviv.”
Lviv airport has recently announced a number of new air traffic routes. “We see a real opportunity in the developing regional infrastructure of Ukraine,“ said Gebr. Heinemann Area Sales Manager Igor Nudelmann. “We have high expectations for our future business in Lviv.”
