Gerry Crawford: set for Head of Retail post at Dublin Airport Authority |
IRELAND. CTC-ARI Airports General Manager Gerry Crawford is to leave his post in November to become Head of Retail at Dublin Airport Authority. In his new role he will report to DAA’s new Director of Retail Paul Neeson. As previously reported, Neeson took on the role this month following the retirement of Frank O’Connell.
Crawford has been one of the most respected and influential senior executives of recent years at Aer Rianta International-Middle East (ARI-ME). He currently leads the company’s involvement as part of the Hermes consortium at Larnaca and Paphos airports. In that role he has overseen the commercial development of new terminals at the two Cyprus airports, and introduced key innovations such as the Uisge Beatha whisky concept.
ARI-ME Managing Director John Sutcliffe told The Moodie Report: “We are very sorry to see Gerry leave but we congratulate him on his appointment at DAA, and we wish him all the very best.
“I have known for some time of his desire to seek a move back to Ireland and this was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. He has been one of the star performers in our company. He led our original involvement in Cyprus with the Cyprus Airways Duty Free venture, he was a fantastic General Manager in Beirut and now he is driving our major business in Cyprus once again.
“Gerry will still be in place for the opening of new terminal in Paphos in November. And although he won’t be here for the opening of the new Larnaca terminal in 2009, it will carry his stamp, as he has been heavily involved in making that project a success.”
ARI-ME is seeking a successor for Crawford in Cyprus. “This is an opportunity for a high-calibre person in what is a vital role for the company,” said Sutcliffe. “It’s a long-term investment and we are a shareholder in the consortium so it is a critical position. We are looking internally but we will also look at any outstanding candidates from outside the company too.
“We’re fortunate that Gerry is moving within the group. He can effect a smooth handover to his successor and ensure that there is seamless continuity to the new person.”
