CHINA. Duty free shopping platform Globuy partnered with streetwear brand My Block to unveil a ‘Fun Come In’ empty bottle recycling pop-up at Jing’an Temple metro station in Shanghai.
The programme ran from 15 September to 15 October, with nearly 1,000 consumers participating by recycling more than 6,000 empty bottles. The space included three zones: ‘Fun Take A Shot’, ‘Fun Get High On Vacation’ and ‘Fun The Screening Room’.

Globuy’s strategic partner China National Service Cooperation (CNSC), the duty free business of Sinopharm Group (49% owned by China Tourism Group – China Duty Free Group’s parent company), also unveiled a five-day ‘Fun Come In’ empty bottle recycling programme at the Yueda 889 Plaza in Shanghai.
The sustainable fashion concept at the ‘Fun Come In’ event invited visitors to bring along empty cosmetics bottles. They could scan a QR code at the site and put the empty bottles into the ‘Fun’ bucket – depending on the number of empty bottles, customers received rewards that could be exchanged for eco-friendly gifts.

The project cooperates with environmental protection organisations to spread awareness about sustainable lifestyles. At the recycling factory, the empty bottles undergo de-labelling, cleaning and sterilising, crushing and sorting, recycling plastic granules, processing and manufacturing.
The ‘Fun Get High On Vacation’ space included a raffle that encouraged visitors to travel sustainably. After delivering empty cosmetics bottles, they could write a destination on a ‘wishing note’ and include their Duty Free Shoppers ID for a chance to win a RMB 5,000 (US$693) travel fund.
The ‘Fun Come In’ activation also featured a relaxation space for watching travel genre movies, and a dedicated ‘Fun Take A Shot’ area where participants could get complimentary photographs.
Globuy Chief Executive Officer Sisi Zhang said: “Globuy has been focusing on the travel retail industry for nearly a decade. It is now relying on the Duty Free Shoppers mini programme and a self-media matrix account with more than two million users which accumulates multi-dimensional user data.

“We have noticed that the needs of Globuy users are becoming more personalised, and they are increasingly concerned about environmental protection while pursuing quality. Therefore, after the body of beauty and perfumery products are used up, the disposal of empty bottles becomes a problem for them.
“We gained insight into this phenomenon, and thus the ‘Fun in Slow Flash Store’ and ‘Fun Come In’ empty bottle recycling programme – which combines the functions of ‘Fun’, travel and empty bottle recycling – were born.”
The ‘Fun Come In’ pop-up store will open periodically at My Block in Jing’an Temple for six months, and the second phase of ‘Fun Come In’ empty bottle recycling programme is in progress. This phase is committed to improving the user experience based on the first phase. ✈
