BELGIUM. The Guinness Book of World Records has officially approved Guylian’s attempt to build the world’s largest chocolate Easter egg.
Guylian, one of the leading manufacturers of boxed chocolates in Belgium, created the 1,950kg egg as the Easter week showpiece at the market square of Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. The egg is decorated with 50,000 Guylian chocolate seashell bars.
Twenty-six master chocolate makers worked for eight days to produce the egg, which is 8m 32cm high, 6m 39cm wide, and supported by a platform measuring 14m by 14m. A roof was built on the egg to protect it from the wind, rain and sun. It was created to mark the opening of the renovated market square in Sint-Niklaas, where Guylian is based.
Guylian produces the world-famous Belgian Chocolate Sea Shells, filled with its trademark hazelnut praliné. The chocolates are manufactured exclusively in Belgium and sold worldwide in more than 100 countries. Guylian holds third place in distribution and sales in travel retail and duty free airport stores. No other Belgian company is featured in Generation DataBank’s top 10 confectionery manufacturers.
