UK. London Heathrow Airport served 7.3 million passengers in September, up by +3% year-on-year and a record for the month. September 2023 was the first time in the airport’s history that traffic surpassed 7 million passengers in the month, a figure exceeded this year by over 200,000.
September also rounded off a record summer, with over 30 million travellers served in the four months from June onwards. The busiest arrivals day ever was recorded on 2 September as over 140,500 passengers landed at Heathrow.
In the first nine months, Heathrow served 63 million passengers, a rise of +6.2% year-on-year.
Flight analyst OAG recently named Heathrow as the most connected airport in the world. Building on this status, the UK hub has announced a resumption of services to Tbilisi, Georgia from summer 2025, after over a decade, via British Airways. The airline will also extend its transatlantic network, operating more than 400 direct flights a week to North America next summer across 26 cities.
Heathrow also hailed several recent accolades, including Best UK Airport in the Conde Nast 2024 Readers’ Choice Award, and the Frontier Award for Best Airport for Retail during TFWA World Exhibition last week.
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “We are closing out our super summer on a high, with over 30 million passengers passing through Heathrow’s doors in the last four months. Being named the most connected airport and best airport for retail in the world is testament to the strong relationship we have cultivated with our airlines and retailers.”
