Historic café brand Aïda secures flagship spot in landmark Vienna Airport Terminal 3 expansion

AUSTRIA. Aïda, the historic Viennese café brand, has revealed to The Moodie Davitt Report fresh details of a vibrant new outlet set to open within Vienna Airport’s landmark Terminal 3 Southern Expansion, due for completion in 2027.

The airport recently confirmed Aïda, in partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail Austria, among the food & beverage partners selected for the major development.

The line-up represents a powerful showcase of the Austrian capital’s culinary heritage and contemporary flair, bringing together celebrated names, including Figlmüller, DO & CO, Café Landtmann, Mochi, Neni, Barbaro, Tür 7, Veganista and JuiceFactory.

Aïda’s new café, spanning more than 100sq m, will offer an extensive range of coffee specialities alongside cakes, pastries, ice cream and savoury snacks.

The opening will mark a milestone for the family-owned brand, adding to its existing long-established presences in terminals 1 and 3 and making it the first coffee house chain to operate three separate locations at Vienna Airport.

The unit will be positioned adjacent to a new food court and will feature its own seating area, with final capacity details yet to be confirmed.

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report today (11 February), Aïda Executive Director Dominik Prousek underlined the significance of the opening for the 113-year-old company.

“The fact that we are the first coffee house chain in the world to be allowed to open a third location at Vienna Airport fills me with particular pride,” he said. “The new location will be a modern interpretation of a Viennese coffee house, architecturally like a modern coffee shop, but with one major difference: over 113 years of experience in craftsmanship, tradition, history and regional quality.”

Aïda’s airport credentials were underlined last year when its Allresto Munich Airport pop-up captured the Airport ‘Food to Go’ Offer of the Year accolade and shared the Best Coffee Shop of the Year Middle East & Africa title at The Moodie Davitt Report’s 2025 Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Awards in Barcelona.

Prousek also praised Vienna Airport’s broader F&B vision for the T3 Southern Expansion. “I admire how the airport managed to take many of the most traditional, most famous Viennese brands and bring them to Vienna airport, but also included the most modern, trendy restaurant brands.

“Philipp Ahrens [Vienna Airport Senior Vice President Centremanagment], Daniel Weiland [Vienna Airport Commercial Manager Food & Beverage] and Julian Jäger [Vienna Airport Joint CEO/CCO], and everybody who was involved in the concession selections, did an amazing job on creating an authentic Vienna city food & beverage experience, right in the heart of the airport.”

Vienna Airport Joint CEO and CCO Julian Jäger commented: “With the southern expansion of Terminal 3, Vienna Airport is further expanding its role as the culinary calling card of Vienna and Austria for travellers from all over the world. In the future, passengers will not only experience a high-quality, new travel experience here, but also a top range of local cuisine.

“We are very pleased to have won Aïda for this and to continue our good cooperation.”

Lagardère Travel Retail Austria CEO Ursula Fürnhammer said: “With the new Aïda location, we are further strengthening the local offering at Vienna Airport. The decisive factor for us is the cooperation with strong partners such as Aïda, who stand for quality and clear signature – which is exactly what our guests appreciate.

“That’s why we are pleased to continue this success story.”

The T3 Southern Expansion forms part of Vienna Airport’s wider development programme and will add around 10,000sq m of retail and catering space. Approximately 30 restaurants and shops are planned as part of the extension. ‍
