CHINA. The Shanghai International Convention Center in Pudong has been chosen as the prestigious venue for the second China Travel Retail Summit to be held in Shanghai on May 14 (opening cocktail) and 15.
The choice maintains the event’s tradition of celebrated venues. Last year’s inaugural Summit was held in The Great Hall of the People, overlooking Tiananmen Square in Beijing and the Gala Dinner at the Great Wall.
This year’s event, themed “Keeping Pace with the China Travel Dragon”, features top international and local speakers. Highly-respected Hotel Lotte duty free director YS Choi will talk about the South Korean role model while Dubai Duty Free managing director Colm Mcloughlin has been asked to address Chinese delegates on how Dubai has managed to drives sales to a level in excess of US$300 million last year.
Leading Chinese figures, including China Duty Free Group president Gai Zhixin and China Power Duty Free Group managing director Antares Cheng will be joined by China National Tourism Administration officials and prominent Chinese and international identities in a packed programme.
Additionally, a number of top Asian retailers will take part in an interactive panel with Chinese delegates called “Dialogue” based on a popular Chinese TV format. Full registration, hotel, programme and sponsorship details will be posted on www.chinaTRsummit.com later this week. They are also available from:
Juliette Wang at China Power France, email: chinapowerfrance@yahoo.fr or
Kit Lee at King Power Group, Hong Kong email: kit@kingpower.hk
The official hotel is the Shangri La, Pudong. Organisers have warned that because of the accommodation crisis in Shanghai, delegates should book early.
