Image of the Day: Celebrating National Aviation Day in style

Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Courtesy of Paradies Lagardère President and CEO Gregg Paradies, we bring you this joyous and timely image of the way the US airport restaurateur and retailer celebrated a key day in the aviation calendar yesterday.

National Aviation Day is celebrated across the US on 19 August every year. The national observance, which honours the development of aviation, was first observed in 1939, after a proclamation by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Why that day? Because it is the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday. Orville was the younger sibling of Wilbur, and together the Wright brothers rank as the world’s most renowned aviation pioneers.

Perhaps never in the history of aviation since that famous first flight on 17 December 1903 has the need to celebrate the wonder of air travel been greater. Paradies Lagardère did that in style.
