CW Lee: “Incheon International Airport Corporation is taking proactive steps to solidify its position as the world’s best airport and gateway to Northeast Asia” |
SOUTH KOREA. Incheon International Airport handled 30 million passengers in 2008, a decline of -4% compared with 2007. Most of the traffic was international, said Incheon International Airport Corporation.
The airport company said that it processed 4.4 million transfer passengers in 2008, adding: “This is a +17% increase from the previous year showing remarkable growth in difficult times.”
The importance of the growth in transit traffic is that Incheon International Airport Corporation has been making strenuous efforts since 2004 to position itself as a major hub in Northeast Asia. “Incheon International Airport Corporation is ready to fulfil customer satisfaction with service excellence in every aspect,” said Incheon International Airport Corporation CW Lee, President & CEO.
“By making joint promotions with airlines, renovating transfer service facilities, simplifying transfer process and reducing minimum connect time to 45 minutes, Incheon International Airport Corporation is taking proactive steps to solidify its position as the world’s best airport and gateway to Northeast Asia.”
The corporation told The Moodie Report that it will announce its 2008 duty free and other commercial results in April. In 2007 the airport ranked as the number one duty free sales location in the world.
While traffic – and spending – suffered from the troubled Korean economy in late 2008, both areas were buoyed by a surge in Japanese arrivals, attracted by the strength of the Japanese Yen against the Korean Won.
