INDIA. The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has announced the participation of Government of India Director General for Tourism Manisha Saxena as a keynote speaker at the APTRA India conference at The Pullman Hotel, Aerocity in New Delhi (19-21 March).
Among the key topics to be discussed by Saxena on 20 March will include Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans to develop India’s tourism sector and the efforts being made to realise this vision.
According to India’s national investment promotion and facilitation agency Invest India, the local tourism sector ranks among the fastest-growing economic sectors in the country.

It adds that tourism widely contributes to local employment and boosts regional development, while creating a multiplier effect on the performance of related industries.
By 2028, India’s tourism and hospitality industry’s revenues are projected to reach over US$59 billion and create 140 million jobs through inclusive growth. Cruise tourism, ecotourism and adventure tourism will be the key focus. Foreign tourist arrivals are anticipated to reach 30.5 million in the next four years.
APTRA President and King Power Group (Hong Kong) CEO Sunil Tuli said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have the support for the APTRA India conference from the Director General of Tourism, Government of India. Ms Saxena is a highly respected official and her presentation will set the context for the exceptional opportunity for Travel Retail in India itself in tandem with the surge in outbound tourists.”
