Jewel Changi Airport recognised for innovation and retail excellence

Hung Jean: Creating new experiences for guests at Jewel Changi Airport

SINGAPORE. Jewel Changi Airport, the lifestyle and entertainment hub located at Singapore Changi Airport, has captured the ‘Most Innovative Retail & Entertainment Project’ accolade at the RLI (Retail & Leisure International) Awards 2020.

The global awards recognise the most innovative and imaginative retail and leisure concepts in 15 categories.

Jewel Changi Airport Devt. Chief Executive Officer Ms Hung Jean said: “When conceptualising the retail experience at Jewel, much effort was invested to curate new-to-market concepts for a unique retail experience. This included collaborating with operators to bring in international brands that had yet to set their footprint in Singapore, working with existing brands to introduce new concepts, as well as setting the stage for familiar homegrown brands.

“We are honoured to receive this accolade, which affirms our vision to integrate retail, nature and play elements on such a scale. We share this honour with our partners and tenants who have journeyed alongside us to create new experiences for our guests in Jewel.”

The awards judging panel, which consists of experts in retail, leisure and architecture, said that Jewel marked “the most outstanding contribution to the retail and entertainment sector over the past year and creates an extraordinary experience for customers and tenants alike”. The 15th edition of the awards was a digital show that was livestreamed from the UK and watched by viewers globally.

Jewel Changi Airport quickly became a leading visitor attraction after its opening in April 2019

Jewel had also previously won the ‘Most Anticipated Opening’ at the RLI 2019 awards. The 135,700sq m complex opened in April 2019 and offers a multi-faceted experience that includes gardens and play attractions, shopping and dining concepts, as well as airport and accommodation facilities.

With more than 280 shops surrounding the leisure complex’s HSBC Rain Vortex centrepiece, about one quarter of Jewel’s retail mix features flagship stores, new-to-Singapore brands and new concepts by existing brands. 11 large format duplex stores offer immersive retail experiences along the second level. Shoppers can also cross between nature and retail, entering the shopping corridors of Jewel from the walking trails of the Shiseido Forest Valley, an indoor garden over four storeys.
