Kazan Duty Free opens first stores at new Kazan Airport terminal

RUSSIA. Kazan Duty Free have opened its first five shops in the new terminal at Kazan Airport, with a further two set to commence trading next month.

As reported, Kazan Duty Free won a ten-year contract to operate all duty free and duty paid retailing at the newly developed terminal in September. The first five shops were opened by Kazan Duty Free CEO Mars Rachimov and Igor Ivanovich Shuvalov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

All stores have been delivered by Kazan Duty Free’s partner Gebr Heinemann. Among them is a 300sq m duty free shop offering perfumes, spirits, tobacco, confectionery and accessories, as well as a 50sq m sports shop and a 50sq m last minute shop.

These are complemented by a 25sq m ‘Kids Shop’ selling sweets and toys, and a duty paid shop selling fragrances and cosmetics to domestic passengers.

Gebr Heinemann Director Russia/CIS Pierre Viarnaud said: “Kazan is the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, a city of more than 1.1 million inhabitants. It’s a place with huge potential. The new terminal is a corner stone for the airport and the region.

“Together with our partners Kazan Duty Free we are looking forward to developing the commercial space at the airport and taking full advantage of the increase in international traffic.”

The first five shops will be bolstered by a 30sq m boutique for Italian brand Pal Zileri and a 50sq m accessories shop next month.

Kazan Duty Free already operates retail units in the existing terminal, and has been working with Gebr Heinemann for the past five years.

The city of Kazan is expected to be the venue for a number of games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and will also be a host of the 2015 World Aquatics Championships.
