Keynamics takes a stand for inflight laptop users – 27/04/06

The Aviator stand aims to provide comfort for laptop users onboard aircraft

US. Texas firm Keynamics has introduced the new Aviator laptop stand, said to be the first such product designed specifically for business travellers.

The Aviator aims to provide comfort for laptop users onboard aircraft, with careful consideration given to the position of the laptop for optimal user comfort and also to accommodate the reclined seat in front. It is also designed to be stable enough to handle turbulence and bumping from other passengers.

The Aviator extends the laptop keyboard 2.5 inches (6.4cm) over the front edge of the tray and raises the screen by 3 inches (76cm). The keyboard is positioned at a comfortable angle for typing and the screen is placed at eye level for reduced neck bending and back strain.

“The stand eliminates the hunch and allows the passenger to rest their back against the seat for spinal support, achieving neutral postures as the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends,” the company said. “It also doubles as a portable desktop stand for use at the hotel, coffee shop or office.”

The Aviator weighs 9oz (0.25kg) and can be stored flat in the side pocket of a briefcase. Recommended retail price is US$19.99.
