Lagardère Travel Retail expands Warsaw Modlin Airport presence with 700sq m retail and F&B space

POLAND. Lagardère Travel Retail Poland has strengthened its presence at Warsaw Modlin Airport with the opening of almost 700sq m of new retail and food & beverage space as part of the gateway’s terminal expansion programme.

The development introduces Costa Coffee and Lagardère Travel Retail’s proprietary 1Minute Smacznego! concept, taking the company’s portfolio at the airport to 13 retail and food & beverage outlets.

Costa Coffee offers premium coffee, desserts and grab-and-go products including wraps, sandwiches and salads.

The adjacent 1Minute Smacznego! outlet combines freshly prepared snacks and fast food with convenience products, groceries and travel essentials.

The store also incorporates the Przystanek Kawa coffee-to-go concept together with order collection solutions designed to improve operational efficiency and customer flow.

The two concepts offer seating for approximately 200 customers.

The venture represents one of Lagardère Travel Retail Poland’s largest single investments at Warsaw Modlin in recent years and comes as the airport responds to surging passenger demand.

The airport reported passenger growth of more than +160% year-on-year in May, while almost 1.5 million travellers passed through the gateway during the first seven months of 2026.

Lagardère Travel Retail Poland Deputy CEO Dariusz Sinkiewicz said: “Warsaw Modlin is currently one of the fastest-growing regional airports in Poland and our ambition is to support this growth by creating commercial spaces tailored to the specific needs of both the airport and its passengers.

“We were pleased to take on this fast-track project. Tailor-made solutions are at the heart of our approach, and our two flagship foodservice brands – 1Minute Smacznego! and Costa Coffee in the ‘Light’ format – are a perfect fit for the airport’s profile and passenger mix.”

Warsaw Modlin Airport CEO Jacek Kowalski said: “Rapid passenger growth requires the entire airport ecosystem to evolve at the same pace.

“Expanding infrastructure is only part of the equation – developing the commercial offer is equally important.

“The project was delivered to a highly ambitious schedule, making close cooperation between all partners essential.

“Working together with Lagardère Travel Retail enabled us to create a new retail and foodservice area in a very short timeframe and adapt it to the needs of a growing number of passengers.”

Lagardère Travel Retail Regional COO Europe & North America Lucio Rossetto commented: “One of the biggest challenges facing airports today is the ability to rapidly adapt infrastructure to changing passenger traffic.

“In this respect, the project at Warsaw Modlin Airport was particularly demanding, as the development of the commercial area had to be delivered within a very ambitious timeframe.

“Thanks to the experience we have gained across hundreds of airports and railway stations worldwide, we are able to operate efficiently even in highly demanding environments.

“This kind of flexibility and ability to execute projects quickly will be among the key success factors for the travel retail industry in the years ahead.” ‍
