Lotte Duty Free introduces UnionPay app payment service

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free today extended its partnership with UnionPay by allowing Chinese customers to pay online using the bank card’s in-app service. It is the first time the service has been made available in Korea, said the retailer.

Previously, when using UnionPay at Lotte Online Duty Free, shoppers had to go through a credit card or text authentication process. For this service they just enter a password using the app. Lotte Duty Free said it expects UnionPay in-app payments to increase the shopping convenience for foreign tourists visiting Korea post-COVID-19. The company said that the move also reinforces the importance of online duty free shopping.
