SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has launched a paid membership scheme, Travel Club X, designed to attract the high-spending Generation X consumer group.
Generation X, which represents people born between 1965 and 1980, has high income and strong purchasing power, driven by a dynamic economy this year, Lotte Duty Free said. This group actively adapts to new technologies and cultural shifts, including online shopping, smartphones and AI, the company added.
The retailer is the first in the Republic to introduce such a programme, following the previous roll-out of the Young Travel Club, which aims to secure loyalty among the growing demographic of shoppers aged 20 to 30.

In a notable observation, the retailer said Gen X customers account for 30% of sales to Koreans this year, with their average purchase amount per person estimated to be approximately +32% higher than that of the MZ generation.
Enrollment for membership is capped at 200 participants, available on a first-come, first-served basis until 3 November, with benefits lasting through the end of the year. Registration is open to all Korean Lotte Duty Free members born between 1965 and 1980.
For a membership fee of KRW200,000 (US$148), customers receive shopping rewards including KRW200,000 (US$148) in LDF Pay, which can be used as cash, along with KRW80,000 (US$60) in discount coupons.

Members are also eligible for premium upgrades such as access to the Star Lounge at the retailer’s flagship store in Myeong-dong, and express airport pick-up services.
In addition, members receive welcome gifts including Whoo facial foam cleanser and a seven-day supply of Orthomol Immun.
A Lotte Duty Free spokesperson said: “We are the first in the Korean duty-free industry to introduce a membership dedicated to Generation X to increase customer loyalty. We will continue to focus on providing customised services that reflect the characteristics and preferences of our customers.”
To prepare for the upcoming peak autumn travel season, the retailer is running a shopping campaign for Korean customers, offering LDF Pay gifts and prizes based on purchase amounts.
This includes up to KRW1.24 million (US$920) in LDF Pay, depending on the payment method used at all downtown stores until 3 November.
In addition, customers who spend more than US$300 at offline stores will be eligible to enter a lucky draw for a chance to win a two-night stay at Galaxy Macau resort complex and a round-trip ticket on Air Macau. The retailer is also offering LG Wine Cellar Mini units and Fred bracelets as part of a special prize event for wedding customers aged 24-25. ✈️
