Luxottica unveils Sicily-inspired Dolce & Gabbana eyewear collection

Luxottica has launched the latest optical and sun collection from Dolce & Gabbana, the Sicilian Carretto Eyewear Collection.

Taking inspiration from Sicily and traditional painted Sicilian carts, the eyewear range features the same decorative techniques used by the master craftsmen who once worked with the carts.

Available in a numbered, limited edition of 100, the eyewear is crafted from Canaletto walnut and features a painted relief design on the front of the frames. The colours are applied by hand in the following order: red with yellow motifs, followed by blue, green then orange. According to Luxottica, no two pairs are the same, since the decorator’s hand renders each model “completely unique”.

Rounding off the range are grey gradient lenses which have the Dolce & Gabbana logo engraved on the inner temple. Glasses cases are made from fabric with the Carretto print.

Intricate decorations that are used on traditional Sicilian carts, such as medieval knights, are the inspiration for the eyewear collection

The Sicilian Carretto collection also includes other sunglasses and optical glasses.

The DG 4278 single-colour acetate sunglasses feature wooden temples complete with multi-coloured relief decorations painted over a blue and white striped pattern. The frame front comes in four colour variations with gradient lenses: black acetate with grey lenses, blue with matching lenses, white with cognac lenses and opaline orange with grey lenses.

DG 4277 is a cat-eye shaped model fashioned from metal and acetate printed with the Carretto motif. It is available in five different combinations: the outer frame decorated entirely with the Carretto print, plus black interior and blue gradient lenses; black with printed interior and tinted grey lenses; red with printed interior and brown gradient lenses; yellow with printed interior and matching lenses; havana with printed interior and brown gradient lenses.

Featuring an acetate and metal design, the DG 3247 is said to stand out for the contrast between its plain colours and Carretto print. Different colour combinations include outer decorations with a blue interior, or decorations on the inner frame with the exterior in a choice of red, yellow or havana.

Sicilian Carretto Eyewear Collection will be introduced to travel retail locations worldwide from April, with an initial focus on Europe and the Middle East.
