IRELAND. Makalu Technologies has announced the arrival of a new connected point of sale cabin gateway solution which offers a real time payment option for inflight retailers.
The Irish company claims that its innovative, low weight solution can be installed at a fraction of the cost of competitor solutions.
The system allows airline passengers to pay via debit cards or credit cards with chip and pin.
It enables live payment verification for improved fraud prevention. It also encourages passengers to pay by debit card instead of cash, thus reducing losses from pre- and post-flight cash handling operations.
Makalu said the product can be integrated with all the main airline POS equipment suppliers.
The company commented: “This will enable airlines to increase inflight retail sales by up to +20% and it also ensures the money is in the bank before the aircraft has even landed.
“It helps to eliminate high bank charges and can also transmit real-time order confirmations that also allow airlines to sell items for home delivery inflight.”
Items can be dispatched immediately for home delivery or even for collection upon arrival at the passenger’s destination, the company added.
