Maui Jim launches Spring 2015 sunglasses range for men

Maui Jim will introduce seven new beach-to-street designs in its Spring 2015 collection for men during the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas in March (stand number: 1703).

Designed to make a statement, the sunglasses feature PolarizedPlus2 lenses and are available in a range of materials and styles. The Maui Jim Spring 2015 range includes:

Castaway (Style #187) favours large faces and offers full-metal styling in a rectangular frame with a wood grain Monel metal pattern, rubber-tipped temples and adjustable rubber nose pads for a superior fit. Colours include Dark Gunmetal, Matte Chocolate and Matte Black.

Hang 10 (#296) takes its name from a surfing manoeuvre and is designed for medium-sized faces. Offering distinctively different front and back styling, a classic retro look with Monel metal square front with double-bridge, its acetate temples feature an interior shell pattern. Hang 10 is available in Gunmetal, Bronze or Burgundy.

Flat Island (#705) – named after an island off the coast of Hawaii’s Oahu – has a lightweight nylon frame and one of the flattest brow lines in the company’s portfolio, according to Maui Jim. With square lenses designed for medium-sized faces, the fixed saddle-style nose bridge has rubber pads for stability and comfort; hints of faded colour along the temples include Blue Stripe, Brown Stripe and Olive Stripe.

Hidden Pinnacle and Legacy are two of the new designs in the Spring 2015 range

Hidden Pinnacle (#298) is a classic design for small-to-mid-sized oval or oblong faces favouring rectangular sunglasses. The acetate frame features saddle-style nose bridge and seamless detailing. Hidden Pinnacle comes in Gloss Black, Dark Tortoise or Tokyo Tortoise.

Legacy (#183) is designed for wider faces with narrow eyes and narrow nose bridges, with nylon frames which wrap around the face to offer full coverage from the sun. Features include embedded rubber pads in the saddle-style nose bridge and Maui Jim signature spring hinges. Legacy comes in Matte Black, Rootbeer or Translucent Grey.

Silversword (#701), a double-bridge nylon aviator, is described as a throwback to 1970s celebrity style. The lightweight oversize nylon frame features brow detailing, and colour variations include Brown with Iridescent Aqua, Olive Stripe, Matte Tortoise and Black and Grey Tortoise. Spring hinges and embedded rubber nose pads are included in the design which favours round, oval and heart-shaped faces.

Free Dive (#200) is a “chunky” aviator, with a wide nose bridge, solid frame and broad temples with embedded rubber nose pads and spring hinges. Colours include classic Gloss Black, Matte Tortoise or Translucent Grey.

Hidden Pinnacle features MauiPure lenses, said to be the world’s clearest non-glass lenses that are also scratch and impact resistant. The other styles feature Maui Jim’s SuperThin (ST) Glass lenses described as -20% thinner and lighter than conventional glass lenses and scratch-resistant. All lenses are said to have waterproof and oleophobic coatings to repel water and smudges.

Castaway, Hang 10, Hidden Pinnacle and Free Dive are available with Neutral Grey lenses for sunny days, HCL Bronze lenses for variable light conditions or Maui Rose lenses for enhanced contrast and fast-moving sports. Flat Island, Silversword and Hidden Pinnacle come in the aforementioned lens colours, but are also available with Maui HT lenses said to offer the “highest usable light transmission while balancing contrast and depth of field for crisper details during varying conditions”.

All Maui Jim lenses feature the company’s patented nine-layer PolarizedPlus2 technology claimed to cut 100% of UV rays and 99.9% of glare from above, below and behind each lens, as well as increase definition and depth perception. Maui Jim added that it is the only company to use three rare earth elements and other treatments to white-balance its lenses to offer true color vibrancy. All Maui Jim sunglasses are said to be recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective UV filter for the eyes and surrounding skin.

Maui Jim was voted ‘Sunglasses Company of the Year’ and ‘Women’s Sport Sunglass Brand of the Year’ in the sixth annual EyeVote Readers’ Choice Awards, announced this week on 26 January. Organised by Vision Monday and 20/20 Magazine, the awards are given based on a survey conducted among opticians, optometrists and opthalmologists, who were asked to identify their favourite products in ten categories: sunglasses, optical frames, spectacle lenses, contact lenses, optical equipment, diagnostic equipment, practice management software, EHR, optical app and online ordering.
