MCM opens flagship store at luxury Beijing shopping mall

CHINA. German luxury lifestyle brand MCM has celebrated the opening of its first flagship store in Beijing, located at the boutique shopping mall Shin Kong Place.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 20 April and attended by Zhao Wei, the internationally renowned actress, MCM CEO and Chairperson Sung-Joo Kim, MCM Creative Director Michael Michalsky, a representive from the German consulate in China, and Beijing Chaoyang District Government officials.

And to mark the brand’s 35th anniversary, a temporary pop-up gallery themed “Das Ist MCM” has been set up at Huamao Square in the city, open for two weeks from 20 April to 3 May.

More than 400 guests gathered on the opening night of the gallery, including local celebrities and international socialites such as rising star Lin Peng, Tony Yang, Ai Dai, Han Xiao, Che Xiao, anchor Li Siyu, supermodel Zhang Liang, Ji Huanbo, stylist Li Dongtian, Ye Mingzi, and Tan Xue Jing.

The Shin Kong Place boutique is designed to give a luxurious brand experience to customers with a dedicated space for its VIP customers. The ambience is described as sophisticated and refined, and the 200sq m space is uniquely yet simply arranged. MCM’s symbolic logos are inscribed on the glittering gold brass plate curtains and the waterfall-style lamp decoration.

A specially designed Beijing Mocha Luxe Exclusive Collection has been launched in a limited number of 50 for the store’s opening event.

“Das Ist MCM” Popup Gallery

The “Das Ist MCM” Popup Gallery will be open for 14 days from 20 April to 3 May, presenting a unique interpretation of MCM’s brand spirit.

With heritage at its heart, the exhibition is designed to portray MCM’s DNA in an innovative manner. Cognac Visetos, the brand’s core material, is showcased in a myriad of products, both classic and trendy.

The Australian-born artist Craig Redman has collaborated with MCM once again, introducing “˜travel pet’, the latest edition in the MCM pet series.

An entire wall in the pop-up shop screens MCM’s history in motion, a video that offers a playful interpretation of the Cognac Visetos meshed with the brand’s German heritage.

Mocha Luxe Exclusive Collection

To celebrate the grand opening of its Shin Kong Place store, MCM has introduced the high-end Mocha Luxe Exclusive Collection in a limited number of 50 pieces available only at this location.

The bags comes in two precious leather materials and four subtle colours: 20 gold pony hair handbags, 10 silver pony hair handbags, 12 gold cowhide leather handbags with python grain, and 8 orange cowhide leather handbags with python grain. All the handbags have an MCM limited edition label inside, on which each bag’s serial number is inscribed.

The new Beijing flagship store strengthens MCM’s presence in China, where it has a total of eight retail locations. Travel retail locations are at Beijing Capital Airport Terminal 3, Shanghai Pudong Airport T2, Sanya Galleria, Macau Airport and Chongqing D/T Galleria.
