Mexican airports group ASUR posts -4.1% decline in December passenger volumes; international traffic slips -4.6% – 08/01/10

MEXICO. Passenger traffic at Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) airports dipped by -4.1% year-on-year in December, the group has revealed. The company operates nine airports in the southeast of Mexico, including the regional gateway of Cancún International.

Total traffic hit 1.44 million, with the bulk of this handled by Cancún (1.05 million passengers), where volumes dipped by -3.2% in the month. The second largest location, Merida Airport, posted a +6% rise in passenger numbers to 104,988.

International passenger numbers across the group’s airports fell by -4.6% to 832,592, with Cancún down by -5.3% to 767,853.

Domestic traffic slipped back -3.5% to 612,675 passengers in the month, though here Cancún posted an increase of +3% to 285,746.
