Milan airports deliver record commercial performance in 2023

ITALY. SEA Group has reported record commercial results in 2023 for Milan Malpensa and Linate airports. Sales at shops and restaurants leapt by +41% year-on-year to €405 million, ahead of the +22% rise in passenger traffic. Average spend per passenger increased by +15% to €11.50.

The group noted: “In the year of the robust post-COVID rebound, Milan airports performed extremely well in non-aviation revenues, which grew significantly because passengers have returned to shopping and changed their habits. They are spending more especially on food and in the lounges, which have recorded more admissions.”

Retail sales alone grew by +43% while spend per passenger increased by +17%; in the F&B segment sales increased by +35% with +10% growth in spend per passenger.

Malpensa Airport airside sales (including duty free and speciality stores) climbed by +52%, with spend per passenger up by +25%.

In Terminal 1, luxury delivered a +54% sales increase, exceeding passenger growth of +34%, with a 15% increase in average spend per passenger. The sales growth figure was particularly driven by the return of intercontinental traffic to Malpensa from Asia, the United Arab Emirates and the US.

“The results reflect outstanding performance and sustained growth in 2023,” commented SEA Commercial Director of Non-Aviation Luigi Battuello. “This success testifies to our unwavering commitment to provide high-quality services and a memorable experience for our passengers. We are grateful for the continued support and trust shown by our customers and partners.” ✈
