UK. British handbag and accessories designer Nadia Minkoff is heading to the TFWA Asia Pacific 2008 show with her latest collection of luxury handbags, purses and jewellery.
Nadia Minkoff made her first appearance in travel retail at the TFWA’s Designer Studio as part of the 2006 Asia Pacific event, but this year returns independently with a collection aimed at travel retailers, and a strong ambition to develop her business in the region’s airport and inflight market.
“The Design Studio was a great experience and gave me a fantastic insight into the needs of the travel retail business,” explained Minkoff. “Travel retail is a global community embracing all backgrounds and nationalities. It has an enormous potential to be one of the most exciting and unique shopping experiences. However, while we all expect to find established brands at the airport these days, there still seems to be less choice for those seeking something different, more unique yet still very affordable. I believe that Nadia Minkoff offers just that. People want quality at a good price but they still care very much for design and originality.”
At this year’s TFWA event, Nadia Minkoff will be showing a select range of handbags and purses from the summer and winter ranges. Also on dispay will be the company’s first collection of fashion jewellery, created in partnership with the oldest costume jewellery manufacturer in the UK, S Root & Co.
Since appearing at the 2006 Design Studio, Nadia Minkoff has been expanding her export business across Asia, and winning recognition at both London and Tokyo Fashion Weeks. In addition, Nadia has been busy expanding in France and the UK and is about to open distribution in Italy. This autumn, the company also plans to launch in key US markets.
Commenting on her plans for travel retail, Minkoff said she saw great potential in Asia, in particular Japan where over the past five years the brand has enjoyed great recognition. “The Asian consumer is familiar with the Nadia Minkoff collections. I have been showing at Tokyo Fashion Week for many years, and I am currently selling through Mitsukoshi and Isetan as well as many of the other leading multiples and specialist boutiques throughout Japan,” added Minkoff.
“The timing is now right for me to focus on developing a market in travel retail. I believe I can offer the industry a strong collection of handbags and accessories that are highly suited to the market, in terms of quality and design, and an affordable price point. I have tailored the collection for travel retail, offering a variety of designs from small, elegant evening clutch bags to stylish day bags using the softest leather and unique design features.”
Speaking of the new jewellery range, Minkoff continued: “The jewellery collection is all hand-made in the Czech Republic, using hand-dipped glass pearls, in a range of beautiful colours. I have designed some pieces with the Asian consumer in mind, taking into account their love of very feminine, colourful designs.”
