Sunglasses suppliers have teamed up to commission new category consumer research, which will be previewed at TFWA Asia Pacific next week.
The research, described as the “first of its kind”, was commissioned from research firm m1nd-set and jointly funded by Luxottica, De Rigo, Marchon, Marcolin, Maui Jim and Safilo, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA).
The key findings from the report titled “Sunglasses in Travel Retail: An In-Depth Understanding of the Asia Pacific Travellers’ Perspective”, will be unveiled during a sunglasses category cocktail reception at the Ku Dé Ta Club Lounge at the Marina Bay Sands hotel, on Tuesday 13 May.
Luxottica Group Travel Retail and Special Channels Director Francis Gros said: “I think this type of collaboration between competitive brand suppliers is quite unique in our business. To date, our category has been relatively light on sunglasses-specific data and consumer insights in travel retail, so this is a big step forward. We look forward to sharing the findings with our travel retail customers in Singapore.”
“With Asia Pacific still driving much of the growth in travel retail, and sunglasses as one of the best-performing categories in recent years, this research is extremely timely and relevant,” said APTRA President Jaya Singh.
“Understanding the unique dynamics of this region and how they shape best practices in travel retail remains a vitally important to fully realising the potential of this market. We look forward to revealing the findings of this research during the TFWA show and hope that this leads to enhanced customer focus, investment and improvement in travel retail in Asia Pacific.”
