US. The latest traffic figures for Orlando International Airport reveal that total passenger movements were +11.4% up in November over the same month in 2002.
Only 7.1% of the 2.3 million passengers using the airport were international travellers, but the number of international passengers rose +13.4% for the month year-on-year.
For the year to 30 November, passenger numbers grew +2.1% over the previous year but the number of international travellers for the period rose +5.4% to 1.6 million.
The main airlines using Orlando International are Delta, Southwest, American, US Airways and Continental. Delta, which accounted for about 19% of all passengers using the airport in the past 12 months, saw a rise of +3.9% in passengers in November compared with the same month last year. However low-cost carrier Southwest, number two at Orlando with nearly 14% of all passengers handled, enjoyed a healthy increase of +13.5% year-on-year.
The leading international carrier using Orlando, Virgin Atlantic, recorded 64,006 passengers in November, a big increase of +21.4% on the same month last year. Second-placed international carrier British Airways carried almost exactly the same numbers this November (19,139) as last year.
