USA. Airport retailer and restaurateur Paradies Lagardère has opened The Goods Express@YYZ convenience store at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The checkout-free retail experience features Amazon Just Walk Out technology as well as a holographic display by ARHT Media, both firsts for a Canadian airport shop.
Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology allows customers to simply enter the store – which sells food, drinks and travel essentials – by using their credit card or mobile wallet at the entry gate. The technology then detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves. When customers have completed their purchases, they can leave the store and their chosen payment method will be charged for the items selected.

The technology uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools including computer vision and deep learning techniques, to accurately determine who took what in any retail space.
Amazon-built synthetic datasets mimic millions of realistic shopping scenarios including variations in store format, lighting conditions and even crowds of shoppers to ensure accuracy in any environment.
The new location marks the first store-related use of the ARHT Capsule in a Canadian airport. It is designed as an engaging and dynamic attraction which draws travellers to the store with intriguing holographic displays that promote the store’s offerings and the Just Walk Out technology.
The technology has been developed by ARHT Media, a global leader in the development, production and distribution of high-quality, low-latency hologram and digital content.

This technology was recently introduced by ARHT to Toronto Pearson for a seasonal traveller promotion and has now been relocated to The Goods Express@YYZ store.
The Goods Express is a proprietary concept operated by Paradies Lagardère across several successful locations in the US. This version is the first in a Canadian airport.
Toronto Pearson Airport Chief Commercial Officer and Interim Chief Operating Officer Khalil Lamrabet said: “Toronto Pearson is proud to be the first Canadian airport to be implementing Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. Through our collaboration with Paradies Lagardère, we are able to offer our passengers this exciting new and cutting-edge shopping experience.

Paradies Lagardère President and CEO Gregg Paradies commented: “We are thrilled to offer these three engaging retail innovations to our great partners at Toronto Pearson International Airport, which is the first Canadian airport to debut each for its travellers in a retail concessions format.
“Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology paired with the impressive ARHT Capsule will be an exciting experience for travellers visiting The Goods Express@YYZ store and is a true testament of our commitment to innovation and the overall customer journey.” ✈
