UK. Over 60 Alpha Airports Group staff gained special recognition during the grand finale of Alpha Heroes 2005, the airport industry’s largest employee incentive and awards scheme.

The staff received recognition for their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to their jobs. Airport industry workers from across the UK and beyond had gathered in Birmingham to see 24 team and individual awards presented. Categories spanned all core divisions of the Alpha Group.

Top accolades on the night went to Heathrow Airport’s All Nippon Airways Service Team, who walked away with the Overall Team Award, and Heathrow’s Chris Murray, who was presented with the Alpha Overall Individual Award.

Paul Topping, Managing Director of Alpha Orient Lanka, received a special honour on the evening for his role in the setting up of Alpha’s Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Fund. Paul was presented with the Lynda Cauldwell Award for instigating the appeal, which has raised over US$275,000 to date.

Attendees were warmed up for the main event by a day of team-building, which involved partaking in Alpha’s own version of the popular UK television game show “˜Family Fortunes’. Hosted by the latter’s regular compere Les Dennis, Heroes Fortunes pitted the firm’s various divisions against one another in a battle of wits, and set the scene for a night of friendly competition and celebration.

Kevin Abbott, Chief Executive of Alpha Airports Group, said: “At Alpha, we firmly believe that our staff are the very heart and soul of the business and the Heroes scheme is our way of acknowledging this. All of our winners excelled this year, showing exceptional levels of commitment and ability and epitomising the hard-working Heroes attitude. Their success is extremely well deserved.”

Lending their support on the evening were many of the airport, retail and catering industries’ biggest names. Over 60 firms signed up to sponsor this year’s event, many returning to support the awards for the second year running.

Abbott concluded: “Alpha Heroes 2005 really has been a fantastic success. Much of this is due to the phenomenal support we have received from our clients and suppliers, whom we cannot thank enough. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how much the industry at large recognises the value of the scheme.”

Alpha Asia Heroes, which was launched to Alpha Orient Lanka staff at the end of last year, takes place on 22 April in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
