UAE. Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has reorganised its management team as it prepares to expand and develop its operations. As part of the reshuffle, general manager George Horan (pictured) has been promoted to deputy managing director. Ramesh Cidambi has been named director – IT and logistics, while Salah Tahlak assumes the role of director – corporate communications and Dubai Tennis Championships.
In addition, Sean Staunton has been named manager – operations, joining fellow senior management members Bernard Creed as financial controller; Anne Smith as manager – executive office and HSE; and Sharon Beecham as manager – purchasing and research.
Also in the purchasing department, Fiona Nagi and Saba Tahir are both deputy managers – purchasing and Yvonne Smiddy is deputy manager – Vendor Support and Research.
Further promotions have been announced across the departments including Purchasing, Operations and Marketing.
Of the 1,200 staff employed by Dubai Duty Free, 80% are under the age of 40, leaving the company well-positioned to cope with future challenges.
DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin commented: “In the past twenty years, Dubai Duty Free’s turnover has grown from US$20 million to US$380 million, and is now one of the top airport retail operations in the world. In the next few years, with the opening of terminal three and concourse two and three, our business will grow dramatically as we expect to double our staffing levels and our turnover. It is therefore important to build a management structure that will oversee those changes.”
