Steven Candries, one of the best-known figures in the travel retail confectionery sector, is attending TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes this week with a mission to boost the present of premium Belgian chocolate brand Chocolaterie Galler (www.galler.com) in the channel.
Candries, highly respected in the trade from the near 30 years he spent with another Belgian chocolate house, Guylian, has been running his own consultancy, Stecando, since June 2019.
Simultaneously he served as Commercial Director for the ChocDefor-owned Belfine chocolate lollipops brand for five years until the end of 2024.
Candries told The Moodie Davitt Report, “Chocolaterie Galler is among the top ten Belgian chocolate manufacturers. They have nice, trendy and unique packagings for their exquisite products – much different from what there is in the travel retail market today.
“Also they are deeply committed to sustainability, which is so important for landlords, retailers and travelling consumers.”

Chocolaterie Galler already has a thriving business with Aelia Duty Free at Brussels Airport where it ranks in the top five Belgian chocolate brands behind Godiva, Neuhaus, Leonidas and Guylian.
Candries added, “With Galler’s beautiful track record at Brussels and Charleroi airports over many years as well as with ATÜ in Turkey and various retailers in Southeast Asia in the past, I believe this quiet brand can make its way further in this exciting travel retail world and claim its place among the sector’s premier brands.”

Candries also represents Crumbel mini waffles and cakes (www.crumbel.be), which has been listed by Aelia Duty Free at Brussels Airport since July with excellent sales, he noted.

A story built on three pillars
Its collaborative organisational model prioritises wellbeing at work, non-discrimination and work-life balance. Galler’s chocolates are all natural, made with 100% pure cocoa, palm oil-free and manufactured with pure vanilla. Using natural preservatives, the products are without additives, artificial colouring agents and artificial flavours; and have low sugar content. Underlining its commitment to cocoa farmers, the company is Fairtrade certified and as a result guarantees a minimum purchase price while preventing worker exploitation, including child labour. |

Based in Liège, Belgium, Chocolaterie Galler is an independent chocolate house profoundly committed to Corporate Social Responsibility through an approach based on three pillars – People, Planet, Profitability.
