SAUDI ARABIA. Riyadh Airports Company (RAC), which manages and operates King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in the capital city, Riyadh, has announced an extensive Request for Proposals (RFP) process through The Moodie Davitt Report.
RAC is inviting qualified international travel retailers to bid for various retail outlets and lounges.
The bidding will be for the retail outlets and lounges located in KKIA’s refurbished international terminals, T3 and T4, that are set to open later this year.
The RFP includes 16 F&B outlets, with three packages of three units, plus seven individual units across the two terminals, covering both landside and airside.
Specialist retail units include packages covering three Travel Essentials CTN shops; two pharmacies; two fashion outlets; two authentic gift shops; and a watches and jewellery store.
The duty free shops will be walk-throughs to use space commercially more effective.
In addition to a foreign exchange opportunity, one CIP lounge is included; as well as wrapping and other services (these offers will be released a few weeks later).
“Exciting innovation” will be highly considered across all the offers, RAC said.
Several opportunities are also available across the existing terminals.
KKIA is amongst the largest airports in the Kingdom and the Middle East. Located north of Saudi Arabia’s capital city, Riyadh, KKIA services five main terminals. One of them is currently being used for domestic flights, while the other two are for international flights.
Transformation on a grand scale
The remaining terminals (T3 & T4) are being transformed and renovated from the inside as part of a wider expansion project at the airport. The development centres on meeting a future capacity of over 35 million passengers annually.
International passengers will transfer to terminals 3 & 4 as development works continue for further expansion.
Terminals 3 and 4 are set to deliver a modern and open environment for a better passenger experience, RAC said. Check-in areas are being relocated to a central link area joining both terminals, offering more seating and circulation space for passengers and retail outlets.
The project consists of 14 travel gates and 95 check-in counters, in addition to 30 counters for departure and 48 arrival counters for passport control. Furthermore, the terminals will have a baggage claim area with eight conveyor belts.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, RAC said it has worked tirelessly with its partners to adjust its operations and comply strictly with the protocols set by health authorities and Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
RAC has been using AI-driven state-of-art technologies that use machine learning to monitor social distancing and has adapted several other precautionary measures to align with compliance.
As a result of its rapid response to COVID-19, KKIA was awarded ACI’s Airports Health Accreditation certificate (AHA) last year. KKIA also received the newly inaugurated Best Hygiene Measures award from ACI recently. KKIA is one of the only two airports that have been awarded this recognition in the Middle East.
