JAPAN. Narita Airport is set to unveil the renovated fifth floor at the Central Building in Terminal 1, renamed ‘Shikisai Garden – Seasonal Colors’, on 9 April.

The redesigned leisure area, including the Observation Deck, will open following renovations that began in April 2025.

Themed around ‘Abundant water and the changing four seasons that nurture Japan’s culture and spirituality’, the space features water elements and seasonal displays to offer a relaxing and culturally immersive experience.

Elevated perspectives offer visitors a new way to experience Narita Airport

Narita Airport, Japan’s international gateway, also introduced the ‘Enjoying your stay’ concept aimed at enhancing convenience and comfort for travellers.

At the Entrance (Atrium, 4F), the bamboo installation ‘Ring of Sky’ by Tanabe Chikuunsai IV welcomes travellers.

Relaxation areas, CHA-NO-MA (Tea Room), I-NO-MA (Living Room) and SHO-NO-MA (Calligraphy Room) offer a calm environment with varied seating, providing customers an opportunity to experience Japanese-style relaxation before departure.

The Digital Art Area, inspired by a bamboo grove, uses light and flowing motion to create a calming experience for passing customers.

A Food Court, themed ‘Terrace with the changing four seasons’, features four columns in different colours representing the changing seasons.

The Kids Area, Froebel-kan Kinder Platz, a fee-based play space operated by Froebel-kan Co., along with other facilities, provides an engaging experience for travellers with children.

The Observation Deck, called ‘Garden Walk’, invites customers to enjoy surrounding greenery, the sound of a brook, footbaths and scenic mountain deck views, while watching planes take off and land.
