SmartDesign President Nick Baker |
CANADA. Nick Baker, Co-Founder and President of Vancouver-based commercial design firm SmartDesign Group, is to take sole control of the company after the retirement of Partner and Co-Founder Jon Sunderland.
SmartDesign specialises in the commercial development of airports and also has many clients in the transportation, sports & entertainment, retail and hospitality industries.
Major projects include New Doha International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Wembley Stadium and Hotel One.
Sunderland, a 35-year industry veteran, founded Sunderland Innerspace Design Inc. in Alberta before relocating to Vancouver in the 1980s. In 2000, he merged his practice with Bakers, The Design Group, of London to form SmartDesign Group.
“Jon has accomplished a great deal over the course of his career and we wish him well with his future endeavours,” said Nick Baker.
Baker will continue to play a central role in business strategy and development while the existing senior management team of Allan Dieckmann, Emily Woeste and Neal Sims will manage day-to-day operations at the Canadian head office.
