SPAIN. The Economy ministry’s antitrust authority, the SDC, has criticised civil aviation authority AENA over the duty free concessions granted to Aldeasa, Spanish newspaper Expansion has reported.
Expansion quoted the SDC as saying: “The duration of concessions (ten years) and their possible extension, as well as Aldeasa’s monopoly in duty free stores, restrict the entry of other operators.”
Earlier this year, when the Aldeasa takeover saga was still unfolding, AENA was revealed to be seeking higher rents for the travel retailer’s Spanish concessions (The Moodie Report.com, 23 January).
In April Aldeasa was acquired by Altadis and Autogrill, via the joint venture Retail Airport Finance, following overwhelming shareholder approval.
