AUSTRALIA. Global travel restaurateur SSP has completed the revamp of its Gold Coast Airport food & beverage estate with the opening of Social Espresso Kombi.
The concession – located in the Domestic Departures area opposite gates 9 and 10 – serves locally roasted espresso coffee, beer on tap, wine and a variety of grab & go food from its serving area inside a custom-made replica 1967 VW ‘Splitty’ Kombi Van.
Highlights of the food menu include fresh sandwiches and salads, plus signature charcuterie boxes which SSP said are “perfect for taking on the plane”.
The venue features a dedicated seating area in front of the van with tables crafted out of surf boards.
The SSP F&B venue overhaul at the airport has seen seven old concessions close. They have been replaced by venues across the Domestic and International terminals, including The Sand Bar, Paradox Coffee Roaster & Bar, Merlo Café, Shack Bar & Grill and Wollumbin Café & Bar, plus two van-based concessions, including Social Espresso Kombi.
In a post on LinkedIn, SSP Australia and New Zealand Gold Coast General Manager Hayley Bell said: “Welcome to Social Espresso Kombi at Gold Coast Airport, the last of the new builds for my team and I. Thanks to all the team behind the scenes who have helped bring this one to life.
“Whether you’re starting your journey or need a quick bite before boarding, Social Espresso offers a unique, laid-back experience to kick off your trip in true Gold Coast style.”
