SSP to introduce two locally-inspired concepts to Leeds Bradford

UK.Travel food concessionaire SSP is to introduce two new concepts to Leeds Bradford International Airport – a new bar called The Saltaire and the first Camden food co. restaurant in a UK airport.

The Saltaire bar is named after the nearby town of Saltaire – a world heritage site, famous for its architecture, food and award-winning beers. Designed to celebrate the best of the region, the bar will serve cask-conditioned ales from the Saltaire brewery and two North Yorkshire breweries, Theakston and Black Sheep. It will also offer an extensive wine list and a range of spirits. Wine experts and highly trained baristas will be on hand to help customers make their choices.

The local theme is continued on the food menu which features a range of traditional favourites, balanced with modern flavours from around the world. SSP said the bar will be sectioned into areas tailored to provide space to work or pass leisure time.

All features have been designed for quick and easy service in the time-sensitive airport environment without compromising on quality, said the concessionaire.

Flight information boards will be clearly visible from every part of the bar, allowing customers to relax as they wait for their flight to be called. Charging points for phones and laptops will also be available.

Celebrating the best of Yorkshire: The Saltaire will offer locally brewed ales and traditional-with-a-modern-twist food

Camden food co. will also offer a taste of Yorkshire. Items on the menu include Wensleydale cheese and ham baguette, Wensleydale cheese sandwich, and Yorkshire Crisps, made with locally grown potatoes and winner of a prestigious Caterer and Hotelkeeper Magazine Award for Excellence. The dessert offer will include rhubarb crumble, said to be made with plants from the fabled “˜Rhubarb Triangle’, an area between Rothwell, Morley and Wakefield that has European protected status.

SSP said Camden food co. was launched in 2006 in response to consumers’ rising awareness of the importance of leading a healthier lifestyle and the lack of nutritious dining options while travelling. The brand also features at a range of railway stations including London’s Euston and St Pancras, providing healthy options alongside more indulgent treats. Clearly displayed nutritional information allows consumers to make informed decisions about the food they choose.

Commenting on the new openings, Sophie Brown of Leeds Bradford International Airport said: “We are delighted to introduce two new outlets to Leeds Bradford Airport – The Saltaire and Camden food co. – to offer passengers a wider choice of high quality food & beverage at Yorkshire’s gateway airport. I’m sure the regional offering will prove particularly popular with our customers.”

SSP UK Local Site Marketing Manager Jacqueline Smith believes the bar and eatery will enhance the customer experience at Leeds Bradford: “Our aim with The Saltaire and Camden food co. is to offer choices that are ideally suited to the needs of the customer at Leeds Bradford. These two outlets offer something of the unique culinary heritage of Yorkshire with the high standards expected by global travellers at an important international airport.”

The two new outlets have been designed as part of an £11 million investment programme to improve facilities at the airport, and the opening of the concepts will create 20 new jobs at the airport.
