SSP to open Norway’s first YO! Sushi outlet at Oslo Airport

NORWAY. Leading travel food & beverage concessionaire SSP will open YO! Sushi at Oslo Airport in January next year. It will mark the brand’s first appearance at a non-UK airport location and its debut in the Norwegian market. SSP will operate the sushi brand along with 29 other outlets at the airport from November this year as part of a major redevelopment.

Leading UK brand YO! Sushi will open in Oslo Airport in January 2012, marking its debut in the Norwegian market

YO! Sushi introduced the concept of the “˜sushi train’ to London in 1997. Customers can choose from a selection of sushi rolls, sashimi, Asian-inspired salads and a variety of classic hot Japanese dishes including firecracker rice, yakisoba noodles, salmon teriyaki and katsu curry. All dishes are served on colour-coded dishes which customers can pick off the conveyor belt and each dish is freshly prepared by sushi chefs in front of diners. Alcoholic beverages available on the menu include Japanese beers, sake and wine.

The service style is designed for efficiency and speed, which SSP said suits the airport environment.

YO! Sushi CEO Robin Rowland said: “SSP’s strong capabilities in the food travel sector make it the ideal partner to further expand our brand in the airport market, and we are delighted to begin a relationship with the true experts in taking premier brands to the travelling consumer.”

SSP CEO Andrew Lynch said: “Our research shows us that customers in Norway have become great fans of the Japanese way of preparing and serving seafood, and we know that they will enjoy the excitement and the theatre of a visit to YO! Sushi. We pride ourselves on offering our airport clients a broad and impressive spectrum of brands – including our own in-house names and bespoke concepts alongside many of the best-loved names on the high street. YO! Sushi, with its innovative menu, slick service and striking good-looks will be a popular choice in Norway, and we’re delighted to be adding it to our portfolio of brands.”

Oslo Airport Director of Business Development and Real Estate Espen Ettre said that SSP’s ability to deliver high quality internationally renowned names was one of its key strengths. “In a top-class line-up, our new food & beverage facilities will feature some of the best brands in the business including United Bakeries, Starbucks, and Le Grand Comptoir. We believe our passengers will really appreciate the YO! Sushi experience.”

YO! Sushi operates more than 56 company-owned restaurants in the UK, as well as more than 11 franchised sushi bars in Ireland, Portugal and the Middle East.
