The late Tappoo Kanji leaves an outstanding legacy of business and community service |
FIJI. It is with great sadness that the Tappoo Group of Companies announces the passing of Tappoo Kanji, the group’s founder, on Sunday 9 May in Sigatoka.
Tappoo Kanji, who was 93, was the father of Kanti Tappoo, Executive Chairman of the Tappoo Group, and grandfather of Executive Director Harnish Tappoo.
A pioneering businessman, Tappoo Kanji ventured into grocery retailing in 1936 in Lautoka before moving to Sigatoka and diversifying into jewellery and general goods.
From those beginnings the Tappoo Group has grown into one of Fiji’s leading retail and industrial conglomerates, with major travel retail operations at Nadi International Airport as well as at hotels and downtown locations across the country.
A committed family man, Tappoo was also a prominent supporter of community causes. His vision led to the creation of the Gandhi–Tappoo Centre at the University of Fiji.
The Moodie Report extends its deepest sympathies to the Tappoo family.
