Tissot updates the classics – 09/09/2004

Swiss watch supplier Tissot blends classic designs and new technology together

SWITZERLAND. Swiss watch supplier Tissot is rehighlighting its updated classic models for the autumn/winter season.

The premium Swatch Group brand has unveiled modern expressions of some of its great classics down the years.

The range to be shown includes:

Tissot Porto Chronograph: The model fashioned after the 1919 Tissot Art Deco timepiece is available for the first time in a new chronograph version.

The shape of the face is inspired by wine barrels, hence the name Porto. The model is christened after the northern Portuguese city, renowned for its port wine.

Porto features the Tissot-exclusive elongated Arab number on the dial. This model comes with two additional chronograph dials of 1/10 second and 30 minutes and the small counter at 6 o’clock. It is water-resistant to 30 m.

The case is 316L stainless steel, measuring 32.4 mm x 42.5 mm x 10.7 mm.

Tissot PRS516: The “˜PRS’ stands for “particularly robust and sporty”, the type of crowd this model is appealing to – classic sports car aficionados.

A salute to the Tissot PRS516 of the 1970s, the new design now comes as a quartz chronograph with automatic three-hand day date version to offer a contemporary feel. The holes in the leather and metal straps were designed by L. Gurtner, who got the idea from racing car steering wheels. Allegedly, the holes in the steering wheels were meant for attaching lucky charms.

Depending on the models, the straps come in stainless steel with a push-button clasp or in leather with “˜deployant’ buckle.

The model is water-resistant to 50 m. Like Porto, it also features a 316L stainless steel case. It comes with 30 minute and 1/10 second counters. The PVD black bezel including a black-and-white tachymeter and pulsometer completes the “˜sporty’ look.

T-Facet and T-Minisquare: Featuring geometric shapes set in paved stainless steel, the latest models of the ladies’ T-Collection reflect light at different angles with the movement of the wrist.

The models carry the trademark “˜T’ on the strap and are available in a yellow PVD version. The company says a top-of-the-range model will be released, featuring polished steel case encrusted with Top Wesselton diamonds and mother-of-pearl dial.

They come with a coordinating bracelet with butterfly clasp made in the same materials, to be worn together with the watch or separately as an accessory. The T models are water-resistant to 30 m. The case measures 18.4 mm x 27.2 mm x 5.6 mm.
