Tous and Perfumes Y Diseño unveil eco-chic fragrance – 09/07/09

SPAIN. Perfumes Y Diseño has unveiled a new “eco-chic” fragrance from Spanish house Tous, called Tous H2O. The scent – inspired by water – is described as a fragrance “made from life and for life”.

“Tous is based on a policy of social corporate responsibility that embraces respect for the environment and the defence of fair trade,” explained co-owner Rosa Tous.

Corporate social responsibility in a bottle: the new Tous H2O “Perfume of Life”, from Perfumes Y Diseño

Tous H2O is described as an exclusive, luxury fragrance that demonstrates complete respect for the environment. As with all Tous fragrances, it was inspired by a Tous jewellery collection.

The Tous H2O jewellery line features blue topaz set in 18 carat yellow gold or sterling silver. Each piece represents a drop of water.

Correspondingly, the Tous H2O juice (made using organic alcohol) is an aquatic blend that opens on top notes of organic lemon and lavender, leading to a heart of rose and jasmine, atop a base of cedar, white amber and Australian sandalwood from sustainable development sources.

The lemon and lavender essential oils are Ecocert certified. The sandalwood used is harvested and gathered following the strict Australian government controls of the Forest Product Committee (Regulator for Sustainable Forest Development) and in collaboration with the aborigine co-operatives.

The advertising visual features a prominent bottle shot, with the key strap-line, “Tous H2O: Perfume of Life. Jewel of Solidarity”.

Further in keeping with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Tous will donate a percentage of fragrance sales to support the Intermón Oxfam programmes which help provide safe, clean drinking water for disadvantaged communities by purifying water, establishing reservoirs, drilling wells and installing pipelines.

This commitment will remain in effect for as long as the fragrance is on the market. It is estimated that for every fragrance bottle of Tous H2O sold, the percentage of earnings donated to Intermón Oxfam will allow the allocation of 15 litres of drinking water, for a period of 10 days, to a person in need. That 15 litres constitutes the minimum daily quantity established by international standards of humanitarian aid to enable drinking, cooking, and domestic and personal hygiene.

Continuing with the corporate social responsibility theme, the fragrance packaging is being carried out in the Special Employment Center of the “Arco Iris Foundation”. This non-profit entity helps in the social and work integration of disabled people through training, and the creation of stable and dignified employment.

Moreover, all of the cardboard used in the packaging is certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), a non-profit organisation assigned to foster responsible forest management throughout the world. The FSC demands the highest standards to ensure environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable use of forests.

The topaz-inspired fragrance flacon is made from 25% recycled material and is itself 100% recyclable. In addition, the fragrance samples will be made from recyclable polypropylene, different from traditional mini-sprays which have metallic mechanisms which make them difficult to recycle.
