
Introduction: To mark International Women’s Day 2026 today (8 March), The Moodie Davitt Report has invited women from across the global travel retail and aviation sectors to participate in Voices of Impact, a special editorial initiative celebrating leadership, empowerment and collective action.
For Voices of Impact, senior executives and female leaders from across the travel ecosystem have shared quotes from inspirational women and thought leaders who have shaped their personal and professional journeys.
Participants also reflected on how they are giving back this International Women’s Day, whether through mentorship, advocacy, philanthropy or initiatives that promote equality and opportunity in line with the 2026 theme #GivetoGain.
#GiveToGain encourages individuals and communities to turn 8 March into one of the world’s biggest days of giving.
Together, their voices form a powerful reminder that progress is driven not only by ambition and resilience, but also by the willingness to lift others along the way.
A special message from ARI on International Women’s Day
However, given the evolving situation in parts of the Middle East, where several of our colleagues and their families are directly impacted, our priority at this time is the safety and wellbeing of our people. For that reason, we do not feel it is appropriate to mark the occasion this year in the way we had originally planned. The values behind International Women’s Day remain deeply important to us. We are incredibly proud of the brilliant women across ARI and the culture of support and mentorship reflected in this year’s theme, Give to Gain. How I show up in this space matters immensely, especially for other women. Having had the privilege of participating in the Women in Leadership cohort at The Estée Lauder Companies, I’ve embraced one of the programme’s guiding values: pay it forward, pay it sideways and pay it circular. This means intentionally setting aside time for mentoring, advocating for female talent, and always being a voice in the room for women striving to make their mark in business.

Why it resonates: The theme of IWD 2026 is ‘Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL women and girls.’ These words carry a powerful message, encouraging us to drive tangible and meaningful change. Whenever we take on new challenges, we inevitably encounter failure – often many times. In those moments, we may feel powerless and tempted to pause. At times, we feel the pressure to always make the right choice.
True action, however, is rarely guided by a clear path from the outset. Stumbling, retracing our steps, and taking detours along the way are not wasted efforts. They are essential steps in growth.
Failure is part of success. The path to our goals is never a straight line. Success is forged through repeated missteps, course corrections, and the courage to keep moving forward despite setbacks. It is this gritty, iterative process – the persistence through trial and error – that truly shapes achievement.

Cosmetics x Data ScienceSince 2023, DECORTÉ has implemented its own initiatives during this period to promote women’s empowerment. This year, DECORTÉ hosted an Instagram Live session featuring prominent women active at the forefront of society. Related initiatives are also carried out at the company’s research laboratories. In Japan, the proportion of women pursuing studies in science and engineering remains lower than the average, creating barriers to career choice. To address this, KOSÉ researchers conducted a special class for junior high school girls titled: Cosmetics × Data Science. Through this programme, participants were able to learn data science in an engaging and enjoyable way. As a result, interest in pursuing science-related academic paths increased to approximately 1.5 times the level measured before the programme, contributing to broadening career horizons for women. |

This International Women’s Day and throughout the year I am giving to gain by supporting the charity Women Who Can.

Why it resonates: I find this to be an absolute gem: when Phoebe Waller-Bridge, writer and lead star of TV drama Fleabag, received a BAFTA, she repeated something her mother once told her: “Darling, you can be whatever you want to be as long as you’re outrageous!”
I love how such a simple phrase can carry so much: the permission for women to be loud and unapologetic. I remind myself of this quote whenever I hesitate to speak up in a room where my voice matters, or when I feel the pressure to shrink myself to fit expectations.
Another moment I keep coming back to is Laura Dern’s monologue in the film Marriage Story, pointing out the relentless double standards women face in both their personal and professional lives.

Why it resonates: In Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, Sheryl Sandberg describes how some women instinctively choose the side of the table, even when they belong in the conversation. That resonated with me because I had done the same earlier in my career. With time, I learned to speak up and claim my seat, despite growing up in a culture where challenging authority wasn’t always encouraged.
Recently, I hosted an International Women’s Day panel at my workplace titled ‘From Potential to Power: Closing the Confidence Gap Through Mentorship.’ In our research, we found that 87% of women with mentors feel empowered, and women with mentors are up to five times more likely to be promoted.
The session was a powerful reminder that mentorship and support have the ability to transform confidence, accelerate careers and create opportunities for women to take their place at the table.

Why it resonates: It’s simple, yet one of the most empowering messages I’ve heard in recent years. It came from Michelle Yeoh, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2022, making history as the first woman of Asian descent to do so in 95 years, and only the second Asian lead ever to be nominated.

Michelle Obama’s words are a reminder that every act of generosity, every door held open for someone else, every moment of encouragement given to a colleague or mentee – it all counts. Courage and hope don’t need to be grand gestures. They just need to be genuine.
This year, #GiveToGain feels especially personal. I’d like to draw attention to the #KickCancerThon, held in memory of Sinead Moodie – a former colleague, an exceptional woman, and one of the brightest, most generous people I have had the privilege of knowing in this industry.
Sinead was taken from us far too soon, but her spirit – one of putting others first, of being a ray of sunshine in every room she entered – lives on in those of us lucky enough to have crossed her path. Supporting this cause feels like the most fitting way I know to honour what International Women’s Day is about: lifting each other up, giving back, and ensuring that the women who shape our world are never forgotten.
