Transaction specialist GTP offers solution to airlines and consumers on lost luggage issue – 18/03/09

UK. A recent report by the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) examining compensation payments made to passengers for mishandled baggage hit the national headlines this week.

The AUC report suggested that airlines could do more for passengers who suffer lost, damaged or delayed baggage, ensuring they are not out of pocket as a result. It also recommends that airlines should commit to reimbursing passengers for reasonable and practical expenses for replacement items purchased while they are without their bag.

A new solution from transaction processing specialist GTP aims to tackle this issue with the introduction of a compensation card which enables airlines to load funds for customer compensation onto a co-branded prepaid MasterCard, either in the airport itself or from a central location.

The card gives customers instant access to the compensation they have been awarded and can be used to purchase goods in over 25 million locations worldwide.

GTP says the compensation card solution offers a variety of benefits to both passengers and airlines including:

• Reduced costs of administering customer compensation
• Improved internal efficiencies
• An improved customer experience
• Leverage of the MasterCard brand
• Enhanced security

“The white label compensation card ensures customer retention in a service-focused and competitive marketplace. Dealing effectively with lost luggage services can have a significant impact on customer satisfaction; repurchase intentions and word-of-mouth,” said GTP Business Development Manager Michelle Barratt.
