SOUTH KOREA. Shinsegae Duty Free has marked the recent World Environment Day (5 June) with a colourful ‘Travel on, Live on’ campaign in collaboration with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Korea.
The initiative aligns with the retailer’s ESG commitments and tenth anniversary celebrations, highlighting the role of environmental protection in enabling sustainable travel.
The company emphasised its continued support for WWF’s conservation work, including efforts to protect endangered species and critical habitats.
Inspired by the ‘every journey begins with nature’ mantra, the campaign seeks to drive action for species and ecosystems impacted by habitat loss.
A series of online and offline activities are encouraging consumers to contribute to nature conservation through simple, everyday actions.
An artistic twist on conservation
A key highlight of the campaign is a Shinsegae Duty Free and WWF Korea collaboration on a media art installation illustrating the connection between travel and biodiversity.
The visual experience draws on WWF’s endangered species data, combining infographic-style animation with detailed illustrations inspired by explorers’ field journals and classic wildlife encyclopaedias.
Through hand-drawn sketches and dynamic animation, it presents species and habitats across the Arctic, grasslands, rainforests and oceans, highlighting the diversity of the planet’s ecosystems.
Promoting sustainable living
Another component of the initiative is a Green Campaign aimed at integrating environmental action into everyday travel experiences.
Shinsegae Duty Free allows online customers to opt out of disposable shopping bags at checkout, while offering a reusable alternative developed with WWF Korea, available on a first-come, first-served basis at Incheon International Airport pickup locations.
The bag is made from recycled materials containing 90% post-consumer content and meets Global Recycled Standard certification requirements.
The retailer will donate funds to WWF-Korea based on customer participation, up to a pre-established donation cap. ✈
