INTERNATIONAL. Communication, consumer engagement, the O2O journey and the power of digital for staff training will be the focus of a travel retail-specific Knowledge Hub session at Beauty Tech Live, a pioneering virtual event which will take place from April 12 to 16.
A session on day one dubbed ‘Travel Retail’s Tech Transformation’ features CircleSquare Managing Partner Stéphane Zermatten, Au Coeur du Luxe (ACDL) President Laurence Ouaknine, and iClick Interactive Asia VP International Business Cody Chan.
Beauty Tech Live is organised by The Moodie Davitt Report in partnership with leading B2B beauty title BW Confidential. Design and event curation is being managed by FILTR.Qingwa.
CircleSquare is an international agency which describes itself as a global network of creative people brought together by a shared ambition – to create engaging, people-centric brand experiences.
Zermatten, the subject of a particularly well-received interview in the Hainan-focused recent edition of The Moodie Davitt Magazine, will talk about how to define an ideal O2O journey, arguing that companies need to forget about channels and focus on people instead.
He will examine the role of digital and physical touchpoints; explain how he believes physical retail must evolve; talk about the use of tech in travel retail and how to avoid common pitfalls. He will then marry these points in an overview of how technology can help bring all touchpoints together in an enhanced travel retail ecosytem.
ACDL is a leading Hong Kong-based education and training firm, specialised in premium and luxury retail. It is a trusted advisor to leading brands, dedicated to improving retail operations, customer experience and sales performance. Its team combines real-world human resources plus sales and marketing experience to ensure clients achieve retail operational excellence and success.
President Laurence Ouaknine has pivoted the company during the COVID-19 crisis to place a particular focus on e-learning and CRM. “Crisis situations are always a booster of ideas and I foresee that we will see soon several outstanding initiatives to enable brands to reconnect directly with the (non) traveller,” says Ms Ouaknine. “A proper CRM requires having digital tools to record the information and well-trained staff to leverage them.”
With passenger numbers reduced, it is more important than ever to increase basket size and conversion rate, she insists. In the last six months ACDL has created over 60 soft skills digital contents in multiple languages to fulfil those needs. During the session, Ms Ouaknine will discuss those initiatives and explain how new technologies are allowing the travel retail sector to re-invent itself.

It is also a Platinum Partner at the 2021 Virtual Travel Retail Expo (18-22 October).
Cody Chan is mainly responsible for leading the Global Account Management team to provide clients with data-driven omnichannel marketing and SaaS-based solutions in the travel retail sector.
At Beauty Tech Live he will talk about a range of subjects including how iClick would advise a beauty brand that is trying to reach the Chinese traveller through digital technology.
