Washington upholds Duty Free Americas contract

US. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has reasserted the award of the duty free concession for Washington Dulles and Ronald Reagan airports made in April to Duty Free Americas (DFA).

The Nuance Group, the incumbent operator since 1994 with Allders Duty Free, had raised questions about the procedure of the airport’s selection and the status of DFA’s DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) partner in a formal legal challenge (The Moodie Report, 1 May 2003). Nuance’s contract was extended for a 60 days to allow for a period of investigation.

MWAA spokesperson Tara Hamilton told The Moodie Report: “The airport authority has responded to Nuance and addressed their concerns. We will now be moving forward with the new contract.”
