Western Sydney Airport names Global Exchange as foreign exchange provider ahead of October opening

AUSTRALIA. Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) has appointed Global Exchange to manage currency exchange services across its terminals.

Australia’s new 24-hour international gateway is on track to open for domestic and international passenger services on 25 October this year, following the launch of cargo services by the end of July.

The Spanish foreign exchange specialist operates in 30 markets, including more than 90 international airports, providing access to over 60 currencies through a global network built over more than three decades.

WSI CEO Simon Hickey said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Global Exchange to WSI as the countdown to opening Sydney’s new 24-hour international gateway gets closer each week.

“Global Exchange brings a wealth of experience and valuable exchange services that our passengers will be able to conveniently access on their travels from WSI.

“It’s another critical piece of the excellent retail experience we’re excited to offer our passengers when we commence operations in October.”

Under the partnership, Global Exchange will manage two bureaus at the terminal, alongside ATM services and a click-and-collect offering that allows travellers to pre-order foreign currency online and collect it at the airport.

The Western Sydney International Airport contract accelerates Global Exchange’s expansion in the Asia Pacific market.

Global Exchange President & CEO Isidoro J. Alanis said: “We are proud of this partnership, which strengthens our world-leading position in foreign exchange services at airports. It is a unique opportunity to support WSI from its first day of operations.

“We are committed to providing passengers with the same excellent service we offer at the 90 airports where we already operate globally, with the innovation, efficiency, and convenience that modern travellers demand.”

A growing global footprint: Global Exchange adds Western Sydney International Airport to its network of airport foreign exchange operations

Global Exchange Managing Director Australia Alberto Suarez added: “We’re very excited to be partnering with WSI as it prepares to welcome its first passengers.

“The opening of this new airport is a major milestone for Australia’s aviation sector, and we’re thrilled to play our part in creating smooth, welcoming experiences through our foreign exchange services.”

WSI Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Alison Webster said, “We continue to deliver on WSI’s retail vision, and we’ll be sharing more news about a range of other fantastic retail partnerships over the coming months as our opening day rapidly approaches.”

WSI is Australia’s first major international greenfield airport development in more than 50 years, strengthening Greater Sydney’s connectivity while supporting long-term economic growth.
