Western Sydney Airport set to welcome first passengers with expansive duty-free and specialist retail offer

AUSTRALIA. Anticipation is building as Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) gears up to welcome its inaugural passenger flights on 25 October. Those travellers will be greeted with an extensive shopping offer.

Multiple speciality brands secured by WSI and its anchor retail partner Lagardère AWPL will join the new global gateway’s retail precinct.

Lagardère AWPL is presenting a range of speciality retail offers, including EyeLove and Tech2Go stores, plus two duty-free shopping areas for international travellers.

Additionally, it is providing three Relay stores offering travel essentials in the arrivals hall and domestic and international departures zones.

A flashback to March as Western Sydney International Airport, Lagardère Travel Retail and Lagardère AWPL celebrate a ‘best of the west’ retail concept intended to showcase Western Sydney in memorable fashion to the world. WSI CEO Simon Hickey said he was delighted to mark this latest milestone as part of the airport’s valued partnership with Lagardère AWPL. The travel retailer is managing around 3,100sq m of space that will eventually comprise 11 stores in the airport’s domestic and international precincts.

“We’re pleased to have secured these terrific brands with Lagardère AWPL, as we continue to build the first phase of WSI’s retail offering, beginning on 25 October, when domestic passenger flights will take to the skies from Sydney’s new airport for the very first time,” he said.

“From day one, customers will be able enjoy a mix of quality retail like premium duty-free shopping and eyewear options, various convenient Relay essentials, including fresh food and drinks, and the latest Tech2Go gadgets.

“We’re focused on ensuring WSI and its partners are well placed to build on this experience with additional stores and brands set to join the precinct over the months and years ahead as flight services increase in line with passenger demand.”

Lagardère AWPL CEO Costa Kouros said the company is creating a duty-free and speciality retail offering that combines leading international brands with products and experiences that showcase the best of Western Sydney.

“Our retail line-up is tailored specifically to the needs of WSI passengers,” he commented. “RELAY serves as a one-stop hub for travel essentials, fresh food, coffee and wellness products alongside a curated selection of local and global brands.

“Speciality concepts like EyeLove and Tech2Go will provide access to top-tier fashion eyewear and the latest technology, while Duty Free WSI offers premium brands, exclusive items and exceptional value.”

Lagardère AWPL’s offering includes around 1,900sq m of duty-free retail and 1,200sq m dedicated to travel essentials and other speciality retail.

WSI commenced cargo operations on 27 July with passenger services now just 12 days away.

The 24-hour global gateway is Australia’s first major international greenfield airport development in more than 50 years.

It will provide a world-class experience for travellers while supporting economic growth and enhanced connectivity for Greater Sydney, WSI said. ✈
